The positional relationship between the five marks in each group varies to ensure local irregularity within global regularity. Paint thickness and brush strokes make the texture of each mark different. Colour varies between and across marks. The marks are shaded around two sides to create a three-dimensional illusion. Each area of shading is slightly different, contributing to the overall theme of local variation within global regularity. The thickness of the paint allows the graphite to pick out edges, producing a line of dark tone which emphasises shape.
